He married twice. He married Hannah Swaine in Hampton, Rockingham Co, NH, February 15, 1670.⁽³⁾ Hannah was from Hampton, where they made their home in Hampton after their marriage.

Hannah was born in Hampton, Rockingham Co, NH 1647.⁽⁴⁾ Hannah was the daughter of William Swaine and Prudence Marston. Hannah died February 7, 1700 in New Hampshire, at 52 years of age.⁽⁵⁾ He married --?-- --?-- February 4, 1701.⁽⁶⁾

He married Ann Folsom May 13, 1697.⁽²⁰⁾ Ann was from Exeter.

He married twice. He married Hannah Foss in Hampton, Rockingham Co, NH, June 15, 1702.⁽²⁸⁾ Hannah was born in Portsmouth, Rockingham County, New Hampshire about 1678.⁽²⁹⁾ Hannah died before 1718. He married Mary Mason in Hampton, Rockingham Co, NH, November 25, 1718.⁽³⁰⁾

11. John³ Jenness (John², Francis¹) was born in Hampton, Rockingham Co, NH March 16, 1703.⁽⁵⁴⁾ Hampton is now Rye, New Hampshire.

He married Lucy Norton in Hampton, Rockingham Co, NH, 1725.⁽⁵⁵⁾ They made their home in Rochester, Strafford County, New Hampshire.

Lucy was born September 10, 1706.⁽⁵⁶⁾ Lucy was the daughter of Bonus Norton and Mary --?--.

25. John⁴ Jenness (John³, John², Francis¹) was born in Rye, Rockingham County, New Hampshire July 20, 1740.⁽⁶¹⁾ John died February 26, 1806 in Sheffield, Caledonia County, Vermont, at 65 years of age.⁽⁶²⁾ His body was interred in Sheffield, Caledonia County, Vermont, at Mosher Cemetery.⁽⁶³⁾ It is believed that John was one of the first persons buried in Mosher Cemetery (sometimes known as Ingalls Cemetery).

He married Mary McNeil. Mary was born February 19, 1745.

He married Martha G. --?--. Martha was born in New Hampshire March 24, 1773.⁽⁶⁷⁾ Martha died June 20, 1859 in Sheffield, Caledonia County, Vermont, at 86 years of age.⁽⁶⁸⁾ Her body was interred in Sheffield, Caledonia County, Vermont, at Freewill Baptist Church Cem.⁽⁶⁹⁾ Her tombstone reads "Wife of Richard Jenness".

She married Archelaus Miles Jr. in Sheffield, Caledonia County, Vermont, December 1, 1796. Archelaus was born in Canterbury, Province of New Hampshire June 14, 1771. Archelaus was the son of Archelaus Miles and Sarah Salley Simonds. Archelaus died August 17, 1813 in Sheffield, Caledonia County, Vermont, at 42 years of age.⁽⁸²⁾

Salley Jenness and Archelaus Miles Jr. had the following family:

29. Mary Polly⁶ Jenness (Richard⁵, John⁴, John³, John², Francis¹) was born in Sheffield, Caledonia County, Vermont August 20, 1796. Mary died February 9, 1834 in Sheffield, Caledonia County, Vermont, at 37 years of age.⁽⁸³⁾ Her body was interred in Sheffield, Caledonia County, Vermont, at the Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.⁽⁸⁴⁾ Her tombstone reads "Wife of Mastain Miles and Daughter of Richard and Martha Jenness".

She married Mastain Morrill Miles in Sheffield, Caledonia County, Vermont, September 6, 1820.⁽⁸⁵⁾ Mastain was born in Sheffield, Caledonia County, Vermont August 20, 1797.⁽⁸⁶⁾ Mastain's given name has been spelled and transcribed every way possible in the public records, including Mastin, Martin, and Masten. On the most primary of records, where he would have likely written his name, it is spelled Mastain. This is also how it is spelled on his tombstone.

There is some uncertainty about Mastain's middle name. The only record of it appears on the death certificate of his son, John Miles. The handwriting spells Moral, a phonetic spelling of Morrell. From reviewing records, there were prominent associates of Mastain's father in Vermont at the time of his birth with the surname Morrell. Mastain may well have been named for them as a sign of respect. Another possibility is that a Mary Morrell married a man named Miles in Canterbury, New Hampshire. This may have been the marriage of Mastain's grandfather, Archelaus. Mastain was the son of Archelaus Miles Jr. and Salley Jenness.

Mastain died October 12, 1863 in Owatonna, Steele County, Minnesota, at 66 years of age.⁽⁸⁷⁾ His body was interred in Cannon City, Rice County, Minnesota, at Cannon City Cemetery.⁽⁸⁸⁾

Mastain Morrill Miles and Mary Polly Jenness had the following family:

He married Mary McClellan in Sheffield, Caledonia County, Vermont, March 1834.⁽¹⁰⁰⁾ The marriage record indicated that Mary was from Glover in Orleans County.

Electa⁷ Miles (Mastain Morrill⁶, Salley⁵ Jenness, John⁴, John³, John², Francis¹) was born in Sheffield, Caledonia County, Vermont July 2, 1821.⁽¹⁰³⁾ Electa died September 23, 1908 in Bremer County, Iowa, at 87 years of age. She died from gangrene. Her body was interred in Waverly, Bremer County, Iowa, at Harlington Cemetery.

She married Moses Lehman in Bremer County, Iowa, April 28, 1859.⁽¹⁰⁴⁾ Moses was born in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania February 9, 1824.⁽¹⁰⁵⁾ Moses was the son of Samuel Lehman and Mary Romberg. Moses died February 28, 1909 in Waverly, Bremer County, Iowa, at 85 years of age. He died from heart disease.

His body was interred in Waverly, Bremer County, Iowa, at Harlington Cemetery.

Electa Miles and Moses Lehman had the following family:

• 57 i. Elva A.⁸ Lehman was born in Bremer County, Iowa July 1860.

• + 58 ii. Sidney Miles Lehman was born August 12, 1864.

50. Heman A.⁷ Miles (Mastain Morrill⁶, Salley⁵ Jenness, John⁴, John³, John², Francis¹) was born in Sheffield, Caledonia County, Vermont September 6, 1825.⁽¹⁰⁶⁾ Heman died September 12, 1888 in Waterville, Douglas County, Washington, at 63 years of age.⁽¹⁰⁷⁾ He died from pneumonia. His body was interred in Waterville, Douglas County, Washington, at Kummer Cemetery.

He married Jane Holt in Thompson, Windham County, Connecticut, December 29, 1844.⁽¹⁰⁸⁾ In the History of Bremer County, Jane's maiden name is incorrectly printed as Hall. Initially, a research of the census records suggested that the surname was probably Holt. The Holt surname proved be correct based on her actual marriage record and widow's pension records.

Jane was born in England May 1827.⁽¹⁰⁹⁾ Jane was the daughter of William Holt and Jane Crocker. Jane died July 21, 1910 in Waterville, Douglas County, Washington, at 83 years of age.⁽¹¹⁰⁾ Her body was interred in Waterville, Douglas County, Washington, at Kummer Cemetery.

Heman A. Miles and Jane Holt had the following family:

• 59 i. Mastain William⁸ Miles was born in Linn County, Iowa June 14, 1850.⁽¹¹¹⁾ Matt died February 8, 1901 in Douglas County, Washington, at 50 years of age.⁽¹¹²⁾ He married twice. He married Harriet B. Johnson between 1870 and 1880. Harriet was born in Minnesota about 1850. Harriet died before 1894. He married Elizabeth A. Waterhouse in Washington, 1895.⁽¹¹³⁾ Elizabeth was born in Massachusetts July 1856.⁽¹¹⁴⁾

• 60 ii. Charles Sheridan Miles was born in Waverly Junction, Bremer County, Iowa July 20, 1860.⁽¹¹⁵⁾ Charles died March 25, 1890 in Spokane, Spokane County, Washington, at 29 years of age.⁽¹¹⁶⁾ He was killed in a railroad wreck on the Northern Pacific Railroad. His body was interred March 26, 1890 in Spokane, Spokane County, Washington, at Fairmont Memorial Park.⁽¹¹⁷⁾

John⁷ Miles (Mastain Morrill⁶, Salley⁵ Jenness, John⁴, John³, John², Francis¹) was born in Sheffield, Caledonia County, Vermont November 7, 1827.⁽¹²⁴⁾ John died December 27, 1910 in St. Louis, Missouri, at 83 years of age.⁽¹²⁵⁾ He died from pneumonia that developed while recovering from a fractured hip. His body was interred December 29, 1910 in Shell Rock, Butler County, Iowa, at Riverside Cemetery.⁽¹²⁶⁾

He married Elizabeth Caroline Brown in Iowa City, Johnson County, Iowa, January 8, 1851.⁽¹²⁷⁾ Caroline was born in Herkimer County, New York October 30, 1824.⁽¹²⁸⁾ Caroline was the daughter of Daniel Brown and Huldah Tanner. Caroline died April 12 1907 in Butler County, Iowa, at 82 years of age. Her body was interred April 14, 1907 in Butler County, Iowa, at Riverside Cemetery.

John Miles and Elizabeth Caroline Brown had the following family:

Miles, age 4 years, 9 months, and 18 days.

Emma Nettie Miles was born in Rice County, Minnesota January 11, 1861.⁽¹³³⁾ Emma died June 26, 1865 in Rice County, Minnesota, at 4 years of age.⁽¹³⁴⁾ Her body was interred in Cannon City, Rice County, Minnesota, at Cannon City Cemetery.⁽¹³⁵⁾ Her tombstone reads daughter of J. & C.E. Miles, age 4 years, 5 months, and 15 days.

Sidney died July 5, 1937 in Waterloo, Black Hawk County, Iowa, at 72 years of age. He died from a coronary occlusion. His body was interred in Waverly, Bremer County, Iowa, at Harlington Cemetery.

He married Maggie Baskins in Bremer County, Iowa, March 27, 1889. Maggie was born in Iowa August 1864. Maggie was the daughter of Joseph Baskins and Phebe Minor. Maggie died November 9, 1956 in Waterloo, Black Hawk County, Iowa, at 92 years of age. She died from a cerebral hemorrhage.

Her body was interred in Waverly, Bremer County, Iowa, at Harlington Cemetery.

Grace was born in Iowa December 26, 1885. Grace was the daughter of David Bailie and Jane Ann Brown. Grace died August 14, 1961 in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida, at 75 years of age. Mrs Grace B. Lehman, widow of Harry D. Lehman, who lived at 5115 Fremont Ave., Lakeshore, died Monday afternoon in her residence after a sudden illness. Mrs. Lehman was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and had lived in Jacksonville 15 years coming here from Fort Pierce. She was a Presbyterian. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Orville Driggs, Des Moines. Funeral arrangements are incomplete awaiting the arrival of the daughter. Hardage and Sons Riverside Funeral Home, 517 Park St., is in charge.

  Her body was interred August 18, 1961 in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida, at Riverside Memorial Park.

Calista E.⁸ Miles (John⁷, Mastain Morrill⁶, Salley⁵ Jenness, John⁴, John³, John², Francis¹) was born in Solon, Johnson County, Iowa December 10, 1851.⁽¹⁹⁵⁾ Carrie died April 20, 1930 in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, at 78 years of age.⁽¹⁹⁶⁾ She died from a coronary thrombosis caused by hypertension and apoplexy. She died in the home of her daughter, Hattie, Her body was interred April 23, 1930 in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, at Crystal Lake Cemetery.⁽¹⁹⁷⁾

She married twice. She married Reuben A. DeWitt in Shell Rock, Butler County, Iowa, August 18, 1872.⁽¹⁹⁸⁾ They were married by Ephram Town, a justice of the peace.

Reuben was born in New York October 5, 1848.⁽¹⁹⁹⁾ Reuben was the son of Thomas H. DeWitt and Amy L. --?--. Reuben died March 12, 1904 in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, at 55 years of age.⁽²⁰⁰⁾ His cause of death was listed as renal calculus followed by pyelitis and peritonitis.

His body was interred in Shell Rock, Butler County, Iowa, at Riverside Cemetery.⁽²⁰¹⁾ His tombstone was the type provided by the government for Union veterans of the civil war. It reads "Co K, 12 Regt, Iowa Inf".

She married Johannes J. Hedegaard in Hennepin County, Minnesota, June 27, 1914. They were married by Reverend Frank W. Harron, a minister of the Methodist Church. Johannes was born in Denmark January 1837.⁽²⁰²⁾ Johannes died June 5, 1921 in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, at 84 years of age.⁽²⁰³⁾

Thomas in Vernon County, Missouri, August 1883.⁽²²⁰⁾ Marietta was born in Melugin's Grove, Lee County, Illinois October 6, 1860. Marietta was the daughter of Elijah E. Thomas and Sarah Jane Melugin. Marietta died September 12, 1893 in Moundville, Vernon County, Missouri, at 32 years of age. He married Minnie Terpening in Moundville, Vernon County, Missouri, February 24, 1895.⁽²²¹⁾ Minnie was born in Illinois March 1866.⁽²²²⁾ Minnie was the daughter of Peter Terpening. Laura died 1879 in Kansas, at less than one year of age.⁽²²⁶⁾ Mrs. Asa Low, has recently returned to her old home in Lowtown, from Kansas, where she went in the spring. She came overland, and was four weeks on the road. She started with her granddaughter, infant child of the late Mrs. C.H. Miles, but the little one sickened and died on the way. One of her children was also very sick but recovered. It was a hard, sad trip for Mrs. Low.

According to family stories, John was cremated and his ashes were spread at Union cemetery in Dent County, Missouri by his daughter, Mabel.

He married three times. He married Blanch H. Smith in Iowa, 1886.⁽²⁴⁵⁾ Blanch was born in New York September 28, 1863.⁽²⁴⁶⁾ Blanch was the daughter of Jason Luther Smith and Sophia Pushee. Blanch died July 29, 1918 in St. Louis, Missouri, at 54 years of age.⁽²⁴⁷⁾ She died at home from Addison's disease.

Her body was interred in Salem, Dent County, Missouri, at Union Cemetery. Her ashes were either spread or buried in the cemetery.

John died April 1973 in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas, at 92 years of age. She married Roy E. Runyan in St. Louis, Missouri, between 1921 and 1930. Roy was born in Illinois 1874. Miles was born in Winnebago County, Iowa September 29, 1889.⁽²⁵³⁾ Electa died February 1976 in Shawnee Mission, Johnson County, Kansas, at 86 years of age.⁽²⁵⁴⁾ She married Charles G. Watson in St. Louis, Missouri, January 1912. Charles was born in Lebanon, Laclede County, Missouri June 15, 1887.⁽²⁵⁵⁾ Charles died 1958 in Perry, Noble County, Oklahoma, at 71 years of age.

She married Thomas Emory in Missouri, between 1910 and 1920. Thomas was born in Missouri 1890. Thomas was the son of Thomas Emory and Amanda Crevason. 70. Ida Josephine⁸ Miles (John⁷, Mastain Morrill⁶, Salley⁵ Jenness, John⁴, John³, John², Francis¹) was born in Jefferson County, Missouri May 6, 1869. Ida died April 7, 1950 in Baltimore County, Maryland, at 80 years of age. Her body was interred in Baltimore County, Maryland, at Oak Lawn Cemetery.

She married Herman Jacob Ressler in Bristow, Butler Co, IA, March 23, 1890.⁽²⁵⁸⁾ Herman was born in Shell Rock, Butler County, Iowa February 2, 1867. Herman was the son of John B. Ressler and Nancy Jane Margretz. Herman died November 30, 1960 in Sparrow's Point, Baltimore County, Maryland, at 93 years of age. He died at the home of his daughter, Jura (Ressler) Lewis, 7317 North Dakota Avenue, from a stroke. He had bent over to light the stove in the kitchen when he had the stroke, hitting his head on the stove. He died a few days later. Two of his grandsons, Edward and Norman Lewis, drove from Texas to Baltimore in 24 hours.

William was born in North Dakota May 13, 1881. William died July 25, 1960 in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, at 79 years of age.

He married Anna Margret Dose 1915. Anna was born in Illinois 1888. Anna died March 28, 1970 in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, at 81 years of age. Her body was interred March 30, 1970 in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, at Lakewood Cemetery.

97. Helen M.⁸ Miles (George Mastin⁷, Mastain Morrill⁶, Salley⁵ Jenness, John⁴, John³, John², Francis¹) was born in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota October 30, 1890.⁽³⁷¹⁾ Helen died March 29, 1976 in San Francisco, San Francisco County, California, at 85 years of age.

She married Lawrence Hill Wadsworth in Minnesota, between 1912 and 1917.⁽³⁷²⁾ Lawrence was born in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota November 28, 1893.⁽³⁷³⁾ Lawrence was the son of Thomas F. Wadsworth and Ida H. Hill. Lawrence died October 15, 1918 in France, at 24 years of age.⁽³⁷⁴⁾ He died from disease while serving in Word War I. His body was interred in Thiaucourt, Meurthe-et-Moselle, France, at St. Mihiel American Cemetery.⁽³⁷⁵⁾ He is buried in Plot A, Row 19, Grave 30.
